He was born today in 1772. He coined the word feminisme and as early?! as 1808 he was talking and writing about womens rights/equality. He had some very interesting ideas on social harmony and apparently there is a living community in the States based on his ideas.

Max Ernst painted by Leonora Carrington. Notice the white horse with icicles. A rocking horse which they had purchased together for their flat in Paris became a significant symbol in their paintings. See also L.C.'s self-portatrait in a previous posting.

Leonora Carrington was born in Lancashire today in 1927 thus she is NINETY -congratulations! An artist and writer, once part of the Surrealists in Paris, and later she moved to Mexico. The photo of Leonora and her cat is exquisite, they look completely alike. Miao!

Li Yuan-Chia born today in 1929 in Lushan Hsu, China and he died in 1994 in Carlisle. He was an artist, poet, curator, and archivist. He ran the LYC Museum in Banks, on the roman wall, in the North West of England for many years. An extraordinary man in many ways he was a pioneer.

Francesca Woodman born in 1958. A photographer using herself as subject long before it became "the norm". Her haunting photographs are always within me as is her suicide at a very young age. Her body of work has held its own over the decades.

Marlon Brando born today in 1924 in Omaha, Nebraska. He died at the age of 80 in Los Angeles. Some extraordinary films he made even more memorable as an actor:

A Streetcar Named Desire, The Last Tango in Paris, On the Waterfront and the Godfather.
