Edna Annie Proulx born today in 1935. A Pulitzer prize winning author and journalist. Proulx was born in Connecticut to French Canadian parents and author of The Shipping News and Brokeback Mountain, both made into films. Really good films at that. She is the kind of writer that the more you read the more you get out of it. Cumulative.
She goes by Annie Proulx, E. Annie Proulx and E.A. Proulx, pronounced PRU.

...Joe Strummer was born. Was he dead cool or what?
He died at age 50 on 22 Dec 2002. The film The Future is Unwritten by Julien Temple is a biopic about him. I have yet to see it.
However today I want to celebrate Joe-Happy Birthday bro!
I will never forget The Clash concert I went to years ago and I was up on the balcony and we were called the old fogies, the grand parents by the band! Great insult!

In 2005 the MoMA in NYC had a retrospective of Elizabeth Murrays' work.

Elizabeth Murray born in 1940 died last Sunday 12th August at age 66 from lungcancer.

Wim Wenders (I love his name Wim!) was born today in 1945 in Dusseldorf, Germany-so he is 61! Congratulations. A great prolific film director, he is also a writer and a photographer.
Paris, Texas is one of my all time favourite films in every respect.

Czeslaw Milosz

Today in 2004 Czeslaw Milosz died and received a state funeral in his native Poland (he was born in Lithuania). A poet, writer, translator and academic he was also a Nobel Laureate for Literature in 1980.
An extraordinary poet and person.
