James Lee Byars born in Detroit today in 1932. I will do a separate posting for him and his work. An extraordinary person and artist.



Max von Sydow in the Exorcist. Max was born today in Lund, Sweden in 1929. He made many many films with Ingmar Bergman his mentor. For me one of the great actors.

Fells and sky for the curlew

A pastel by Sonja Stringer 2000 of the fells here in the National Park. She used the gorgeous pastel crayons made locally by Unison.

A long-billed curlew. This bird is the symbol for the Northumberland National Park where I live.

James William Fulbright born today in Sumner, Missouri. He was a Southern Democrat for Arkansas. He supported the creation of the United Nations and established the international exchange program known as the Fulbright Fellowship.

Jacques Brel, Belgian-French singer/songwriter born today in 1929 in Brussels. Considered a poet, his songs have been translated and recorded by e.g. David Bowie, Frank Sinatra, Nirvana, Joan Baez, Dusty Springfield, The Dresden Dolls. His songs have been very influential. He is buried near Paul Gaugain in the Marquesas islands.
Betty Ford, born in Chicago today in 1918. She was a radical First Lady. A very real person who openly talked about breast cancer, sex, and addictions and womens rights to abortion etc. She left quite a legacy with the Betty Ford Clinic, and an increased awareness in general and as a rolemodel.
