Jacques Brel, Belgian-French singer/songwriter born today in 1929 in Brussels. Considered a poet, his songs have been translated and recorded by e.g. David Bowie, Frank Sinatra, Nirvana, Joan Baez, Dusty Springfield, The Dresden Dolls. His songs have been very influential. He is buried near Paul Gaugain in the Marquesas islands.
Betty Ford, born in Chicago today in 1918. She was a radical First Lady. A very real person who openly talked about breast cancer, sex, and addictions and womens rights to abortion etc. She left quite a legacy with the Betty Ford Clinic, and an increased awareness in general and as a rolemodel.
