Happy Birthday to...
Basil Bunting born today in 1900. His most well-known piece of writing is Briggflatts named after the Quaker Meeting House (above) where he was a friend and where he is buried. He lived nearby where I live now for a period of his life. Briggflatts is a lovely serene place to visit if you get a chance. It is near Sedburgh in Cumbria.
As a young man( see photo above) Bunting played chess with Franco on Tenerife when he was the governor there before the Spanish Civil War. I wonder who was the better player?
